Seagate Technology was honoured with the Best Use of Technology award during the Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2025 earlier this year, celebrating the company’s pioneering AI-enabled Generic Image Focus Quality System and its transformative impact on quality control and operational efficiency.

Through the implementation of this cutting-edge AI/ML solution, Seagate analyzes thousands of images daily across multiple microscope tools, optimising defect detection, tool health, and overall process performance. 

The system’s scalable design has generated $30 million in realised value since 2021 and is now being expanded globally, setting new benchmarks for innovation and efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Judges praised Seagate for its large-scale, high-impact technological approach. “This project solved the complex challenge of microscope image focus drift across global manufacturing sites, delivering $30 million in savings, reduced scrap, and measurable efficiency gains,” the panel noted. “With proven scalability and strong external recognition, the initiative establishes a high standard for AI-led industrial transformation.”
