Dawn Meats has finalised the acquisition of a 65 per cent stake in New Zealand-based Alliance Group, with farmer-shareholders retaining a 35 per cent holding. The NZ$270m (€132m) strategic partnership, approved by Alliance’s farmer-shareholders in October, positions the combined entities as a formidable player in the global red meat market.

Niall Browne, CEO of Dawn Meats, highlighted that the partnership will create new opportunities across New Zealand, Ireland and the UK, enhancing supply chains and enabling a year-round supply of sustainable, grass-fed red meat. The investment will also support capital expenditure upgrades, technology adoption and sustainable business practices to drive future growth.

Willie Wiese, CEO of Alliance Group, described the transaction as a key milestone, enabling the company to move from planning to implementation with a partner offering scale, global reach and industry expertise. The deal strengthens Alliance’s balance sheet, accelerates value growth initiatives and maintains meaningful farmer ownership and influence through a robust governance framework.

The partnership unites Dawn Meats, its UK business Dunbia, and Alliance Group under a single strategic vision, creating a unified competitor with a substantial presence across both Northern and Southern hemispheres. The combination is expected to enhance operational efficiency, market access and long-term value creation for farmer-shareholders and customers alike.

The acquisition signals a new era for Alliance, with resources and expertise from Dawn Meats enabling ambitious expansion while retaining strong local farmer involvement.
