Six projects spanning ICT, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing have secured a combined €36.9 million under Call 7 of the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF), highlighting Ireland’s commitment to transformative R&D. The DTIF, established under the National Development Plan in 2018 with a €500 million allocation, aims to foster collaboration between academia and industry while enabling enterprises to commercialise disruptive technologies.

The largest award, €13.7 million, went to QUBIC, a quantum computing consortium including Dell Technologies and CeADAR, focused on developing practical algorithms and hardware applications. SensABLATE, which is creating technology to remove malignant tissue without surgery, received €11.1 million. The remaining four projects, spanning sectors from advanced manufacturing to healthcare, were granted between €1.7 million and €5.4 million.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke emphasised that the funding demonstrates government support for forward-thinking innovation that addresses real-world challenges. “These projects improve patient outcomes, advance quantum technologies, revolutionise logistics, and reduce energy consumption,” he said, adding that they also drive high-value jobs and boost competitiveness.

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science James Lawless highlighted the fund’s role in strengthening Ireland’s knowledge economy. By fostering collaborations between academia and industry, DTIF is creating opportunities for research graduates, spin-out ventures, and top-tier talent to engage in cutting-edge technologies.

Enterprise Ireland CEO Jenny Melia noted that the funding empowers high-potential start-ups and multinational partnerships to scale, extend global reach, and deliver high-quality jobs. She cited transport logistics and quantum computing as standout areas where disruptive innovation is being advanced through these investments.

The projects collectively signal a strategic push to translate research into commercial impact, positioning Ireland as a hub for next-generation technologies.
