Cygnum has completed an €8 million expansion of its Macroom facility in County Cork, increasing timber frame manufacturing capacity and supporting residential construction supply chains across Ireland.
Irish Independent reported that the expansion has created 150 jobs in the Midwest Cork region, strengthening the company’s production capabilities as demand for housing construction materials continues to rise.
Cygnum is one of Ireland’s largest timber frame manufacturers, producing an estimated 2,500 housing unit installations annually and supplying prefabricated building systems for residential development projects.
Founded in 1997, the company has recently been acquired by Grafton Group, subject to approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, with plans to operate alongside Chadwicks in the Irish market.
Local political representatives highlighted the economic and housing supply impact of the investment.
Macroom-based Fine Gael Councillor Ted Lucey said: “This is a very significant and positive development for Macroom and the surrounding areas. The creation of 150 new jobs will be a major boost for local families and businesses, while the increased capacity at Cygnum will play an important role in helping to deliver much-needed housing.”
Fine Gael TD for Cork North West John Paul O’Shea said: “It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of this impressive new facility in Macroom. This is hugely positive news for the area and the wider Cork region.”
He added: “The creation of 150 new jobs represents a significant investment in our local economy and provides real opportunities for workers and families locally. It is a strong vote of confidence in the skills and talent available here.”
