Sligo-based manufacturing support organisation AIM Centre has expanded beyond its home county for the first time, opening a new base in Galway to strengthen its engagement with manufacturers in the medtech and life sciences sectors. The Connacht Tribune reported on the development, confirmed in April 2026, with the expansion supported by the Western Development Commission.

The AIM Centre has joined the Landing Studio at CREW on Wellpark Road in Galway city as anchor tenant. The centre works with manufacturing and service companies to build capability, accelerate innovation, and embed AI and digitalisation across their operations.

The expansion forms part of the AIM Centre's broader growth strategy, a key element of which is developing closer links with the medtech and life sciences clusters in the Galway region.

The AIM Centre is an initiative of Sligo County Council, Leitrim County Council, and Atlantic Technological University, supported by Enterprise Ireland. While headquartered in Sligo, the centre delivers many of its services nationally through a combination of on-site engagement, remote delivery, and digital platforms.

David Bermingham, director of AI at AIM Centre, said: "The move to open our first Galway hub is designed to strengthen our national reach. We already work with companies across Ireland, but having a base in Galway allows us to be closer to key sectors like medtech and life sciences, where there is strong demand for what we do."

Méabh Conaghan, regional director at Enterprise Ireland, said the expansion of the AIM Centre to collaborate with CREW in Galway strengthens the regional and national AI support ecosystem and will bring expertise closer to key industrial clusters while continuing to support manufacturers and services companies nationwide in applying AI in a practical way.
